In the heat of battle, midst the roars of grief and pain
As arrows fly about my ears, to lodge among the slain
I still can hear a promise made to eyes of jade-like hue.
I shall not be a beast again. I shall return to you.
It grips me when calamity spreads thick throughout the earth
When good folk die, when evil seems to bear triumphant worth:
The urge to feed my anger, to do as those villains do,
But I cannot. I gave my word. I shall return to you.
So when the world o'erwhelms me now I often close my eyes
And rest my mind upon your face, your smile of sweet surprise.
I never shall deserve the wondrous things you always do
But as long as you still want it, love, I shall return to you.

I know I'll never pinpoint it,
The moment that I fell.
For somehow when I looked at you,
That form I know so well,
Gradually you seemed to have been
Lit from deep within
And I could never think of you
The same old way again.
Do you see it the way I do?
Do you now feel a change?
Is that why you stay so aloof
So carefully out of range?
Oh, do not be afraid, my love,
Of fires banked deep inside.
The only tragic love I know
Is love one tries to hide.
Let's celebrate, then, warrior mine,
And live each day in bliss.
For you have made my heart to sing.
Always remember this:
That once I saw that glow within
And claimed it as mine own.
From now on, dearest heart, I vow,
You'll never be alone.

T'would be easy enough to fall in love
When firelight lit your face,
When all the air seemed magic-tinged
And all your movement, grace.
But mine is not a nighttime love,
Where shadows mix with sparks
Where darkness hides reality
As bright sea teems with sharks.
For my love lives in open air
And welcomes sunlight in:
Heart open now to all that's real,
To what you've always been.
For in the sunlight, more than flame,
Your radiance cannot hide.
I love you for yourself alone

I must go. It tears my heart
To be without your touch.
You are the strength behind my step,
And to my soul a crutch.
Though I am called to stand for right,
And must be on my way,
Know every time I close my eyes
And pull back from the fray
I'll see you there: that special smile
That calls me to the right
And offers me the joys of love
When day shall turn to night.
I know I leave because I must
But here I give my vow:
I'll dream of you, remembering
The glow we're sharing now.

You look at me protectively
And all my senses race,
For we have found a kinship
Which transcends all time and place.
The elements within your heart
Are those not found in mine:
We make a world, complete and safe,
When both our souls combine.
And so, we face uncertain lives
Secure our bond will last,
When echos of our separateness
Bring back a day long past.
The broad road strings an endless mile
Toward fates we do not know
Yet, while you walk beside me
I am not afraid to go.

The sunset is spectacular.
I'm at a loss for words.
The clouds become a rainbow
Mid a symphony of birds.
We watch together, you and I,
And overlook the sea.
The hand upon my shoulder
Claiming all of this for me.
And somehow, it seems right
That you should order all our sphere,
That at your voice skies should grow dark
And summer moon appear
For so you can command my heart
To love in endless measure
So that I vow, at setting sun,
That I'll be yours forever.
