I saw you across a crowded room
And my pulse shifted into overdrive
Never have I seen such beauty
I couldn't take my eyes off of you
And neither could anyone else
You could have had anyone in the room
But to my great surprise, you picked me
As you crossed the room, your eyes locked with mine
And I was mesmerized, frozen in time
As you neared me, I couldn't breathe
The world shrank down to just us two
And when you reached me, and took my hand
The earth stood still; time ceased to exist
And instantly, two souls became one

I dedicate this to my two dear friends, Nadine and Beth.
Do you know how dear to me the two of you are
You came into my life at a time when I was ready to cut myself off
From relationships, from committment, from feeling
And, in so doing, to cut myself off from pain
But, from the very first, you reached past my defenses
And, touched my heart, in a way that few ever have
And, I know that if, God forbid, our relationship should end tomorrow
I would be the better for having known you
To have been blessed with your love, has been a balm to my soul
You have put joy back into my heart, and into my life
There are no words to truly let you know what you mean to me
None to describe how deep is my love for you
None to describe how unbreakable my commitment
None to describe how great my gratitude for letting me into your lives
And, no matter how beautifully words may be strung together
They could never speak as true, as when my heart speaks to yours

I wonder if you noticed
That I didn't come home today
You've taken me for granted
For so long that I doubt you did
By the time you realize
I'll be so far away from you
That you will never find me
That is, if you should even try
We have grown so far apart
We don't even know each other
If I must live with strangers
I prefer ones I don't know
At least then my heart won't yearn
For the sweet love it remembers
Knowing it is gone for good
Perhaps it will love again
As I start my life anew
In a new place with new people
One where I can live with pride
And be the woman I once was
The one I was meant to be
The one you've forgotten exists
That's the reason I left
Because I was forgetting, too

Behind a fortress, walls unbreachable
Lived my lonely heart
Protected from the cruel, cruel world
It beat, a world apart
And, then you came, and so unexpectedly
Not, slowly, brick by brick
You destroyed all my castle's defenses
So tidily, and quick
My heart lay bare, not strong, but faint
It shuddered at your touch
So many times, it had been crushed
It's need was so, so much
But, with gentle hands, and patience sure
You just refused to relent
You tamed my heart, its beating wild
Denial all but spent
No longer hiding in a fortress strong
But, to the world exposed
My heart beats softly, wary still
But, not completely closed
To you, at least, it's open wide
No limits in existance
Willing to risk it all for love
Futile, all resistance
And, on the battlefield, supreme
Where all is won or lost
I have no doubt of victory
And, no fear of the cost
For one thing is worth any task demanded
No risk to great to bear
In order to attain love, never ending
And, another's heart to share
No dragon too fearsome, no mountain too high
If, at the end of it all
I stand at your side through all of eternity
My heart at your beck, and call
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you hear my name called on the wind?
Do you see my face when you close your eyes?
Does your heart call out for mine?
I know that this is so
For, my senses are filled with you, too
Though many miles lie between us
Our hearts beat as one
Our breath is synchronized
One soul, divided between us
Irrevocably joined for all eternity

And the feelings were pure magic
Each touch was filled with sweetness
Each kiss was from the heart
The air was thick with desire
And we answered its' request
You fulfilled my ev'ry wish
And left me filled with content
And as I watch you in stealth
Your desk just across the room
You haven't even a clue

You've sucked me dry
You've drained my soul
I've had enough
Now you must go
I'll start again
Some way, some how
I won't be used
It's my turn now
I'll find someone
Who'll think I'm great
Who'll treat me right
Make no mistake
I don't need this
I don't need you
You broke my heart
But I'll get through
I'll love again
Oh yes, I will
I'll trust again
You didn't kill
My faith in love
Or my belief
In happiness
Despite my grief
It may take time
But that's OK
Because I know
There'll come a day
When I'll look back
With no regret
For ending this
With you, and yet
It's true, today
My heart's in pain
But this I know
Your loss; my gain
I'll come through this
Wiser, stronger
Not beaten down
Any longer
So in a way
I owe you thanks
For giving me
Another chance
To have a life
Like I dreamed of
Happy, married
And lost in love

You stay there, at the edge of my consciousness
When I reach out to you, you fade away
Yet when I busy myself with other things
You are there, overshadowing every thought
I see your face clearly in my dreams every night
But during my waking hours, you're only a vague silhouette
As I sleep, I hear you speak with the voice of an angel
And the echoes of your words reverberate inside my head
I know the day will come when I will look up...and into your eyes
For we are surely destined to meet, for the first time, once again
To share this life as we have shared countless others
For it is not dreams that I have at night...but memories
Memories of the lives we have shared in centuries past
Of love that has never waned, though the relationships may have differed
We've been lovers, friends, parent and child
Yet always together, inseparable through the passage of time
So I wait...knowing not the day, but certain of the outcome
One day we'll meet and my dreams will become reality once more
And we will walk hand in hand through this life, sharing laughter and love
Knowing, without question, it is but one more chapter in our neverending story

Just what did this year mean to me?
How does one describe one's destiny?
To live one's whole life incomplete
And then, out of the blue...to meet
The one person who really knows
What lies inside this lonely soul
And knows it without being told
Someone like that's worth more than gold
But this year, suck a gift did I
Receive with blessings from on high
She helped me to believe again
In the precious love between friends
And in my ability, too
To use my writing to get through
The walls between me, and the world
And in so doing, my soul unfurled
I'm becoming someone I'm proud of
Thanks to the healing pow'r of love
So this year's been my unveiling
An epiphany, oh so telling
My Angel's boundless faith in me
Has given me wings; made me free
The coming year may hold surprise
But the love that shines from her eyes
Has given me the confidence
To face whatever consequence
May come my way, because I know
No matter what, she'll never go

I say it's blue, you say black
If I think it's a beautiful day
You say it looks like it's gonna rain
If I'm in a cheerful mood
You are the prophet of doom
No matter what I happen to say
You're gonna see things another way
So why don't we just say goodbye
Then we can get on with our lives
I've had enough, I want no more

And as I rub the sleep from my eyes
I realize it was just another dream
Night after night, you haunt my dreams
With visions of the life we shared
Or did I just imagine it all?
Awake now, I try to remember
But the pictures in my mind
They're faded, and out of focus
Did we really share a special love?
Were we really that happy?
How could we have been if it ended?
Questions and doubts swirl inside my head
Emptiness holds fast to my heart
And sleep tugs at the boundaries of my consciousness
I lay down, and drift off to sleep once more
And, as always you're there
Loving me in my dreams
As you never loved me in reality

Disjointed, senseless, confusing
Without any specific direction
Without any foregone conclusion
A thousand different pieces
To a puzzle without solution
My mind has no peace
My soul no absolution
There must be answers to be had
If only I knew the question

In a castle by the sea, there lived a lonely soul
Untouched by human frailties, such as love
Distant from all, connected to none
A life lived free of emotion, a life lived alone
Though many tried to brave the swells
To storm the castle's walls
The fury of the sea proved too great
And the solitude continued
To approach the castle from the landward side
Was to court a certain death
For it was guarded by a fearsome dragon
Known to consume comers, one and all
Til the day a tiny child approached
With big blue eyes and golden curls
As fearless as she guileless was
She walked right up to the castle gate
The dragon reared his head to strike
The child flinched not, but held his eye
And smiled with all her innocent beauty
The dragon froze there in his tracks
As he felt his wicked heart melt
His evil soul flooded with love for the beautiful child
And she passed, unharmed, into the castle hall
The castle's inhabitant had watched in disbelief
As the child cast her spell upon the dragon
For surely, that must be what had occurred
No other explanation could suffice
Whatever her intentions, she would find him not so
easily enchanted
He had no heart for her to touch
His soul nothing but a black void
He watched her as she proceeded into the great hall
Heading errlessly straight for him
It seemed as if she knew exactly where he was
Even though he stood in the darkness
Just one more shadow among many
A light shone around her as she approached
She seemed to glow, as if from within
He thought to flee as she neared
But he held fast, knowing instinctively
There was no fleeing this, no fleeing her
He was looking at his destiny
Watching it in fearful awe
She continued relentlessly forward
Until she stood within his reach
But he reached not, he moved not
He barely breathed
Her eyes of blue held fast his golden orbs
She looked into his very soul
And to his amazement
He found he had one for her to view
He felt its stirring for the first time in his memory
And was terrified
He didn't want to feel, he didn't want to care
Not about anyone, not about anything
She saw his fright, and she placed her hand in his
And when she touched his hand
She captured his heart
For yes, it happened, that he had one of those as well
Still she held his gaze entranced
And slowly a smile began to show forth on her beautiful
face
It encompassed all that she was
Beauty, innocence and love
And he found himself smiling back in kind
And he felt her sweet love engulf his being
And in that instant he became all that he never was
All that he should have been
His soul lonely no more
For a beautiful child had succeeded where great men
had failed
For she had come bearing the one weapon against which
he had no defense

I sit at the window
And stare sightlessly outside
Decisions weigh heavy on my mind
Which path do I take?
The one my heart points me towards?
Or the one my conscience points me to?
And who's to say which is the right one?
If it were only myself involved
The choice would be so much easier
But other lives will be touched by this
People I love, and who love me
There are no easy answers
Perhaps there are no answers at all
And the decision must be mine alone
No one can make it for me
So I sit here
The weight of the world on my shoulders
My mind spinning with thoughts
And no solution in sight

"It's a girl", they said
And his joy slipped a notch
He'd wanted a boy
What father wouldn't
As the years went by
He taught her all he knew
All he would have taught a son
And she learned it all
But she was just a girl
And a daughter could never equal a son
He'd been robbed by fate
No matter that she mastered it all
No matter that she yearned to please him
Or that she excelled in all things taught her
No matter that she was better than most
She was always just a girl
She did her best, she gave her all
But fate had robbed her, too
Her best was never good enough
She was never more than Daddy's girl

Is anyone out there? Is anyone listening?
Tonight it seems as if I'm alone in all the world
My voice echoes back to me on the evening breeze
No one hears me as I cry, no one shares my pain
I'm left alone to battle my inner demons
They claw at my soul, shredding it bit by bit
Gaining purchase with each rake of their talons
I have no strength to fight their atack
I have nowhere to hide that they will not find me
Their screams reverberate inside my brain, mixing with
my own
They give me no respite, constantly torturing my spirit
They have free rein in the darkness, and sunrise is
eons away
Will I live to see it, or will they devour all that is
left of me?
Is there anyone out there? Is anyone listening?
Or am I really alone?
