Chameleon

You say that you know me
And you think that you do
But the person I am
Is a stranger to you
You see what I show you
And think there is no more
But that's just a fraction
Of what I keep in store
I'm a chameleon
And what you want to see
Is just what I show you
But it's not really me
If I showed you myself
Without any disguise
Would I still look the same
In your judgemental eyes
Or am I accepted
Only if I portray
Your idea of right
Is there no other way
To gain your approval
I have found that there's not
So I'm what you expect
And you think that you've got
Someone in your image
With the same point of view
When the truth of it is
That I'm nothing like you
