Savage Struggle

My heart pounds against my chest
Wild, brutal, frantic
To the beat of a feral drum
The darkness calls to me
And I fight against its pull
All the while, wanting to give in
Wanting to release the wildness in me
Knowing I must keep it reined
That I must uphold the facade
That I must fit in
Polite society would be aghast
Were I to let the beast come forth
And so, I fight to keep it caged
But the struggle never ends
The savage in me rages at the restraint
My will wars with my nature
And the call grows louder
The pull grows stronger
And soon, I will answer
I will have no choice
My feral heart will break its chains
And leave nothing but destruction in its wake
