Biography taken from the unofficial Gina Torres pages. "Gina Torres is a native of New York City, where as a young girl she dreamed of being a big movie star and singing on the Broadway stage. She began her journey by studying voice at The High School of Music and the Arts (now named La Guardia High School of Music and Art)." Shortly after graduation, she began her stage career by garnering roles in such musicals as, "Dreamgirls", "The Wiz", "Sheila's Day", and "Red Lights and Blues". And it wasn't long before she started moving into more dramatic roles in plays that ranged from modern urban dramas to the Greek classics and Shakespeare. Needless to say, whether or not she was doing "the right thing", by pursuing such a difficult career, never crossed her mind. The universe embracd her, the work was coming, and she was hooked. A lot of hard work, a good reputation, and many, many, many auditions later, Gina is proud to have worked in sveral and varied roles on T.V. and film, such as: "Bed of Roses", "The Substance of Fire", "La Femme Nikita", "Law and Order", "NYPD Blue", "M.A.N.T.I.S.", "Xena", and "The Gregory Hines Show", to name a few. And with leading roles in Tommy Tune's "The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public", and David Henry Wang's "Face Value", she got to realize her dream of working and singing (!!!) on the Broadway stage. Although both shows combined only ran about a month, Gina exclaims, 'Hey, a dream is a dream! And however short the time, I was there and it was GLORIOUS!' Of her role as Nebula she says, 'While shooting the first episode, I had hoped and intended to make a strong impression, if only to be asked back!' Afterall, a girl's gotta work. But I never imagined that I would impact as many people as I have, much less on the many levels to which people seem to relate to her.
