Ballad of Victory

I sing the song of the Warrior Princess
Who's maternal instincts were incensed
Though her methods wore thin
Her love rang through the din
And Olympus was forced to coalesce.

There was a young lass from Amphipolis
Used hatred and death as a chrysalis
The bitch that came out
Had Caesar by rout
And still the Greeks shout, 'you have crippled us!'

She was made to run the gauntlet of pain
She did, and it drove her quite sane
No more would she take
Burn, pillage or rape
'Destroyer of Nations' disdain.

Met a lass who's hair reddish gold
Pushed sorrow down, made the warrior bold
Though her love for the lass
Made her act quite an ass
Those bardly tales would never be told.

Came a time when the warrior conceived
Some eyed the bard, but few would believe
Would money change hands,
To see if she can?
'Twas the gods Callisto deceived

The gods ran 'round in their fear
For Xe's child, the Twilight is here!
They sent all they had
Even Zeus, the grand Dad
But it ended up costing them dear.

The fair goddess of wisdom and deed
Had a plan by which Xena would bleed
The fight they'd not win
Unless fought from within
Through the bard, it was all agreed

The truth was twisted throughout
Filling the bard's pure heart with doubt
The Furies plan won
Both bard and child were undone
Leaving Xena's rage redoubted

Each god had a score to settle
Each one would test the warrior's mettle
Each found her quite daunting
Their powers found wanting
'Victorious' was the warrior's fine fettle

And what of the warrior and bard
Who found the path of love so hard
Would they truly find peace
In love's embracing release
If in dreams, that is their reward.
