Grooming Talent 101
Two hours after reading the first chapter of Nailah's novel, Amanda called Gerald to find Nailah's number. While munching on some pita chips and humus, she rereads the last page of Nailah's first chapter. She flops on her divan, cross her legs at the ankles and dial's Nailah's Aunt's number on her bulky cordless.
The phone rings.
A deep mellow female voice speaks: Hello?
Amanda: May I speak with Nailah Brown?
The lusciously deep voice answers: Speaking.
Amanda: Nailah, it's Amanda. I finished reading it. Gerald will make arrangement for an account to have a third of the $50,000 deposited in any account you choose after we've gone over the next chapter. You said you finished more chapter, right? I'll have him e-mail you the particulars.
Nailah: Hey I'm surprised you liked it and I finished up to chapter five.
Amanda: You have a potential publishing deal being handed to you. Print out both chapters and send them to me. I prefer hard copies to e-mails. We can e-mail notes back and forth but not the work itself. Here's my address-
Amanda tells Nailah where she lives, her cell number and the number to my loft.
I get her to verbally agree to write the info down. I can hear her writing down the info as I slowly repeat it to her.
Amanda: I use Reliable Messenger Service. Their number is 555-0108. My account with them is PY9-12CE9 De Klerk-Zwart. Have them pick up the manuscripts and deliver it to me. After I read them we'll meet at my place, go over any notes to polish the first two chapters up and settle the advance payment. Good work Nailah.
I immediately hang up. I figure I shouldn't give her too many options either besides the ones I want her to act on.
