Why when an elevator button is already lit do people push it again and again? Nothing to do with the story I was just curious.

A special thank you goes out to my beta reader, Mary.

As always this is for Heather.

"Who was your first kiss?" Kerry inquired innocently enough. At the time I thought it was a good question. Little did I know just where that one little question would lead me. It all started with a group of friends getting together for a barbeque after a rousing game of softball. I don’t play since I’m a total klutz, but I am one heck of a cheering squad.

The barbeque had been fun despite the team’s loss, and later that evening there were just a handful of us sitting around swapping war stories as we sipped our beverage of choice. For the majority of my friends that was beer, with the exception of Kerry and Jan who find the world a lot more tolerant of their actions if they refrain from alcohol. Now me, I was sipping a glass of white wine per usual.

"Gosh I haven’t thought about her in years," I mused as I swirled my wine around feeling everyone looking at me.

"I should have known you’d started with another girl," Jan chuckled as she gave me a playful nudge.

"Both times," I chuckled receiving some very curious looks. "You know what I mean there is the first kiss and then there is the first kiss. The first time you kiss you just bump lips and noses and you can barely hold their hand because yours is all sweaty. Then there is that first real kiss that makes your stomach flutter because not only do your lips meet, but you become completely lost in feeling their tongue wrapped around your own."

"You read far too many of those online stories," Kerry chuckled. "So tell us about both of your first kisses? And kissing a picture of the Bionic Woman doesn‘t count."

I sighed deeply as the innocent memories of my youth replayed in my over active mind. "Same girl both times," I explained as I sprouted a silly grin. "Mandy Nolan," I sighed at the memory of the sweet young girl that had, at one time, been my very best friend and first crush. "She was blonde with freckles everywhere."

"You having the hots for a blonde what a surprise," Jan laughed.

"Ssh, I want to hear this," Colleen chastised her. "So tell us about the lip lock?"

"The first time we were about eleven or twelve and had been out riding our bikes," I recalled as I remembered how we just rode around town with no real destination in mind. "It was during summer vacation and it was getting late so we started back home. She lived just across the street from me. I walked her to her house and followed her into the garage as she put her bike away and it just happened. She leaned over and kissed me. I almost passed out. I just stood there like an idiot not knowing what to do. Then she said goodnight and walked into her house. I remember I barely fell asleep that night as I wondered what it meant and if she’d marry me someday." The other’s laughed at my comment some of them smiling at the sweet memory. "The next day she acted like it had never happened, in fact she kind of avoided me for the rest of the summer. I was crushed. We didn’t hang around together much after that. Just before I turned sixteen Debby Trainer who was Mandy’s cousin and a friend of mine threw a slumber party. I never forgot how Mandy just tuned me out years earlier so I didn’t seek out her company. Imagine my surprise when she followed me around all night and parked her sleeping bag next to mine. Not only did she sleep next to me she kept scooting closer and closer during the night. I don’t remember what we said to one another, but we just started whispering as everyone else slept. I still remember her blue eyes twinkling in the darkness as we whispered. I just reached out and started caressing her arm. She started caressing mine and the next thing I knew we were kissing. I mean really kissing. I was still too shy to try anything else. Then someone woke up and we pretended that we were asleep. I didn’t sleep a wink all night. My heart was pounding from the excitement I felt and the fear that someone might have seen us making out. The next day everything went back to the way it was before."

Everyone sighed and we moved on to another subject. But that night got me thinking. I couldn’t help wondering what had happened to Mandy, my first kiss and serious crush. A few weeks after the slumber party she and her family moved away. I never heard from her again. Debbie had told me that she had moved to Florida because her dad got a job down there. As the years passed and high school ended I lost touch with Debbie and my memories of Mandy had faded. I never went back to the old home town since my parents split up after I graduated from high school and each of them moved to a different town.

Telling the story at the barbeque really got me thinking about the first girl to make my heart go pitter pat and I started to wonder if it was possible to find some discreet way of finding out what had happened to her.

I began my search on the internet and after finding absolutely nothing for the first month. I tried calling some old friends from back home. I quickly discovered that most people no longer stay in the towns they grew up in. I can’t say that I blame them. The only thing of interest in the tiny suburb I had grown up in was the Mall, and even that paled in comparison with the bigger Mall in Burlington.

I can also add that you quickly learn that those folks who stay behind in your old home town can possess some mighty interesting quirks not to mention prison records. I was just about to give up my search when I managed to track down Debbie. To be completely honest I didn’t really track her down as much as I ran into her, literally.

I was in Barnes and Noble when I turned a corner a little too quickly and plowed right into some unsuspecting woman. I was mortified to say the least. I apologized immediately and tried to help the stunned woman up. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the woman I had knocked over was none other than, Debbie or Deb, as she likes to be called now.

I could tell that she was about to release a spew of obscenities as I helped her to her feet. Deb usually did have an interesting command of the English language. Even when she was completely upright I was still completely unaware of whom I had just knocked over. "Rosalie?" She suddenly exclaimed with a bright smile. I thought that she was either psychic or a really good guesser until I recognized her.

"Debbie Trainer?" I gasped as we hugged.

"Deb," She corrected me as she took a step back to look at me. "And it is Durham now."

"Deb Durham?" I snickered.

"No jokes." She chastised me.

"Spoil sport," I pouted. "This is so weird. I’ve been trying to track down some of the old gang from high school, and here I run into you at a book store on the other side of the state."

"If you’re not busy why don’t we head across the street and get a cup of coffee?" She suggested as she linked her arm in mine. "You can tell me what you’ve been up to for the last decade and just why you are looking for the old gang."

We chatted for over an hour about our lives. Deb was married with three kids; I found out that three children seemed to be the common dominator with our graduating class. I filled her in on college and my job. To her credit Deb didn’t even blink when I mention that my partner and I split up over a year ago. Then I explained that an impromptu discussion at a barbeque got me thinking about the folks back home. I glossed over the parts concerning kissing her cousin.

"What were you talking about?" Deb inquired her voice sounding a little too curious for my liking. Deb and I had always been close, but I really didn’t want to tell her I had a crush on her cousin. From what I could recall she and Mandy never really got along.

"Oh you know," I hedged. "Just High School. Stuff like that."

"Must have been some pretty interesting stuff," Deb noted with a smirk. "Your ears are turning red. I’ll have to pry it out of you some other time. I have to pick up my kids."

I was thankful for the reprieve as we exchanged digits and email addresses. I had a really good time talking with Deb, and when she called about getting together I didn’t hesitate. Over the next couple of months I learned that there are friends who you just click with even after not seeing one another for years and then there are others that you should just run from. Thankfully Deb was not someone I needed to run from.

We got together when we could. I even met her husband Ron and their three children. They all seemed great. I had managed to forget, or depending on your point of view, why I had been trying to track her down in the first place. Deb seemed to have forgotten as well. So when the invitation to join her for dinner came I thought nothing of it and agreed.

The best part about having Deb in my life again was that we really got along and she never mentioned her cousin. I just assumed that they still didn’t get along. Silly me. I arrived at Deb’s house that Friday night with a bottle of wine and a DVD for the kids. It was hot again. I decided that fall was no longer a season and we would just suffer through once again until we were snowed in.

Ron answered the door looking exhausted as the children ran around. Charlene, the middle child and only girl, seemed to be ruling over her brothers once again. I really liked this kid and fully expected to end up working for the energetic and bright five year old some day.

"Lee," Charlene squealed as she pushed past her father to greet me. "Play with me and Minnie."

I was too busy picking her up and laughing at her father to really notice what she had said. "Charlene," Her father tried to chastise her as I handed him the wine. Little Charlene ran the house; I knew it and so did her parents. As I said I really like this kid.

"Hey Ron," I laughed as he just conceded defeat to his daughter.

"Hi Rosalie," He laughed as he thanked me for the wine while I carried the bundle of energy into the house.

"Present?" Charlene inquired her eyes gleaming as she tugged at the DVD I was still holding.

"Charlene what did I tell you?" Her mother tried to scold her as she entered from the kitchen wiping her hands on a towel.

It was too late. Charlene had already taken possession of the DVD and was trying to figure out what it was. "You are going to spoil them," Deb turned on me.

"That is the joy of having friends who don’t have children," I laughed.

"Harry Potter," Charlene squealed almost shattering my eardrum. "Show Minnie," She insisted as she kicked wildly.

"Minnie?" I said as I put her down and she ran off to show her brother’s. I gave Deb a curious look as I tried to figure out just who the five year old was talking about?

"Cool!" I heard Jason the oldest scream out as he rushed into the room. "Can we watch it now Mom?"

"Can you say thank you to Rosalie?" Deb sternly asked him.

"Thank you Rosalie," Jason respectfully complied. "Can we watch it now?" He quickly added. "We already had dinner,"

"Yes," Deb gave in as she rolled her eyes. "Have Minnie put it in the player and then tell her dinner is almost ready."

"Who is Minnie?" I finally asked after Jason ran off and Ron handed me a glass of wine.

"That started with Jason," Ron laughed as silence suddenly surrounded us. "He couldn’t pronounce her name."

I was just about to ask whose name Jason couldn’t pronounce when she stepped out of the family room holding the DVD. "Hey Deb the kids said it was okay with you if I put this in . . . ," Her voice trailed off when our eyes met.

"Mandy?" I sputtered almost spilling my wine in the process. I couldn’t believe it there she was after all of these years looking absolutely incredible. Her hair seemed blonder, her eyes bluer, she even seemed taller than I remember but there was no mistaking that it was her. And there I was gaping at her like a complete idiot.

"Hello?" She addressed me in a curious tone that screamed she had no idea who I was. You know at times life can just bite you in the ass. Not only had she failed to grow ugly over the years, and obviously wasn’t so taken in by my kisses that she couldn’t live without me, but she had managed to forget all about me. And there I stood with my mouth hanging open looking as if I needed to be medicated. Not only was life biting me in the ass it was drilling my teeth and auditing me at the same time. The only thing that could have completed my utter embarrassment would have been if I had gotten my period right then and there.

Clinging to the one small shred of dignity I still possessed I snapped my mouth shut and tried to look as if I hadn’t just made an idiot out of myself. "I’m sorry," I offered drolly as I straightened my back and squared my shoulders. "I knew you when you were just a freckled faced little brat." It wasn’t very mature but I was sinking fast and had to do something.

"Really?" She answered me in a curt tone.

"Yes," I smirked as I prayed for an earthquake to swallow me up. Of course being in New England the chances of that happening were slim. "I’m Rosalie Robinson."

"Right," She nodded as she shrugged. "The scrawny girl who lived down the street from me."

Scrawny! I’ll give her scrawny!’ I silently fumed as I plastered a fake smile on my face.

"So Deb is it alright with you if I put this movie in?" She continued effectively ignoring me. Now granted I wasn’t looking for some undying declaration of love, but it would have been nice if she at least remembered my name. I couldn’t help noticing the look of utter astonishment on Deb’s face as she glared at her cousin.

"Yes," Deb finally stammered out as she took Mandy by the arm. "I’ll help you that player can be difficult."

"Deb it is a DVD player not the space shuttle," Mandy reasoned and even I had to agree with her on that one. "I think I can handle it."

"I’ll help," Deb repeated with a hiss as she dragged her cousin out of the room into the family den.

I clenched my jaw and tried to hear just what the two women were whispering about as they left the room. I looked over at Ron who had developed a sudden interest in the carpeting. "What is going on?" I asked as politely as I could knowing that in someway I was being set up for something.

"I need to check on dinner," He blurted out as he dashed into the kitchen quicker than you can say the game is on’.

"I want Lee," I heard Charlene demanding. I downed my glass of wine and decided to take the bull by horns. I tried to appear casual as I entered the family room where the movie was already playing.

"Hey pumpkin," I greeted Charlene as she tried to crawl over the back of the sofa to greet me. Instinctively I reached out and caught the little imp. My grasp on Charlene was met by another pair of hands that sent a delightful shiver through my body. I almost dropped little Charlene when my dark eyes met a fiery blue gaze.

I swallowed hard as Mandy and I placed the giggling mass back down onto the sofa. "Minnie and Lee sit with me," Charlene demanded.

"No," Her mother informed her. "They have to eat their dinner first."

Dinner was a somber affair filled with stifled conversation and awkward pauses. Frankly I couldn’t wait for dessert so I could feign a headache and get the hell out of there. But I had promised to say goodnight to the kids. What the hell I still liked them. I wasn’t entirely certain I still felt the same way about their parents. Every comment was directed to either Mandy or myself and was geared to engage the two of us in conversation with one another.

Neither Mandy nor I took the bait. By the time the last cup of coffee had been served and the kids put to bed I was beyond ready to leave. I was thankful that I didn’t drink anymore wine since all through the evening I was tempted to shout out, How could you not remember me? We sucked face?’ Granted it probably would have livened up the conversation.

When Mandy excused herself in order to use the ladies room I spotted my opening. "I had a lovely evening," I lied. "I really should be going."

"Oh so soon," Deb responded with disappointment.

"I’m afraid so," I offered as I picked up my car keys anxious to make my escape before Mandy could reappear.

"Are you sure?" Ron repeated.

"Yeah," I repeated very slowly thinking how normal both of them had appeared when I first started hanging out with them. I was tempted to look around the house for pods or a cult hiding in the basement, anything that would explain their behavior.

"Well thanks for coming," Deb said standing very slowly in an obvious attempt to delay my departure. "Could you do me a favor?"

"Sure," I quickly agreed. I would have agreed to anything so long as it got me out of their house.

"Great," Deb said with smile that should have clued me in. "Mandy doesn’t live that far from you."

"Huh?" I gasped as my eyes widened in disbelief.

"Both Ron and I have been drinking," Deb continued in a flurry as Mandy chose that moment to reenter the chaos. "I don’t think either of us should drive."

"What is going on?" Mandy inquired suspiciously as I just stared at Deb.

"Well Rosalie has agreed to give you a ride home," Deb responded her voice cracking slightly as she spoke.

"What?" Mandy choked out as her face turned a brilliant shade of red.

"You know it is getting late," Deb continued as she hurried us out the door.

The next thing I knew I was standing in the middle of Deb and Ron’s driveway looking at my car keys and then over at a very stunned looking Mandy. I looked back at the house then to my keys and back to Mandy who still resembled a deer caught in on coming headlights. "Were they taken over by a cult?" I finally asked trying to make some sense out of the situation as I used the remote on my key chain to unlock my car.

"No," Mandy fumed as she stormed over to my car and waited by the passenger side door.

"Then can you tell me what is going on?" I pleaded as I opened the door for the irate woman.

"Ugh," was the only response Mandy offered as she climbed into my car and slammed the door.

"Oh this is going be fun," I growled as I made my way back over to the driver’s side and climbed into my car.

I started heading in the direction of my home which was a good twenty minutes away. I had no idea if I was heading in the direction of Mandy’s home since the only sound she was emanating was the grinding of her teeth. The only clue I had was that Deb had said that she lived near me.

I was a few blocks from my home and my passenger was still glaring out the window grinding her teeth. I put on the directional and pulled over onto a side street. Mandy still hadn’t moved or acknowledged my presence. "What ever it is I don’t care," I began slowly wondering if she too had been taken over by the dark forces that had obviously captured Ron and Deb. "Could you just tell me where you live so I can take you home?"

She seemed stunned at first as she looked around the abandoned street where I had stopped. She buried her face in her hands. "I’m so sorry Robbie," she blew out in exasperation before looking up at me. My heart skipped a beat when she used her childhood nickname for me. I swallowed hard as I stared deeply into her fiery blue eyes.

Then it hit me. "Robbie?" I stuttered as I blinked with surprise. "Wait, so you do remember me?"

"Of course I remember you," She sighed again. "How could I forget you? For the first ten years of my life you were my best friend."

"Yeah until you started to avoid me," I grumbled. I was amazed at how the bitterness from my childhood could recapture me so quickly. "So why pretend that you didn’t know me?"

"Because I avoided you," Mandy struggled to explain as she turned away from me. "Because of why I avoided you and why I did it again when we were teenagers," I didn’t say a word. I just wanted her to continue. I wanted to know why she had tarnished the sweetest moments of my life that would later lead me to understand who I was. "It was because I kissed you." She finally confessed.

"Yeah?" I encouraged her still not understanding how a simple kiss could lead to being dropped as her friend? Mandy seemed so vulnerable as she continued to avoid my gaze. As I drank in her sullen features it finally hit me what had happened all of those years ago. "You freaked?" I offered compassionately.

"Yes," She blew out finally turning to look at me. "Of course I freaked I kissed a girl. Didn’t you?"

"No," I said with a silly smile. "I got my first kiss from my first crush. To me it was perfection."

"Me too," She said softly smiling for the first time that evening. "But I wanted you to be my first, first."

"Really?" I swooned at the very thought that we could have made love back in high school. "I wish I had known."

"I couldn’t tell you," she confessed as I felt my heart tighten. "It was bad enough Deb knew."

"Deb knew?" I blurted out feeling my adolescent fears returning in full force. "Wait," I said calming myself before I actually broke out in acne and re-grew my braces. "When you were older and became closer you told her?"

"No," Mandy sighed once again as she unbuckled her seatbelt. "Do you remember the slumber party?"

"Vividly," I confirmed as I unbuckled my seatbelt and slid closer to Mandy. Despite the awkwardness of the evening there was still something about her that drew me in.

"Deb saw us," Mandy informed me her voice dropping slightly. I simply nodded as I was drawn closer to her. "You remember that back then Deb and I didn’t get along?"

"Uh huh," I confirmed as I watched Mandy’s eyes drifting to my lips.

"She teased me about it," Mandy continued as each of us moved even closer to one another.

"And you freaked," I supplied as I dipped my head slightly. My senses were reeling as I felt her breath caressing my face. It was one of those moments where you just know that you are going to be kissed and the wait was turning your body into an inferno. "Tonight was a set up," I added as I felt her hands gently caressing my waist.

"I didn’t know you were going to be there," She continued as her eyes fluttered shut. I shivered as I felt her lashes tickling my face. "I didn’t even know the two of you had gotten back in touch."

I knew there was so much more we needed to talk about, everything from what happened in the past to Deb’s recent match making, but at that moment I didn’t want conversation. Sometimes you just have to kiss the girl and I did. And it felt good. Mandy’s lips were still so soft, only now we knew what we were doing, and we just allowed our bodies to melt together.

I would like to think that it was the sweet memories of our youth that fueled the flames. Honestly, at that moment as our tongues wrapped around one another, and our hands began exploring the other’s body at that moment it was all about undeniable passion. Everywhere I touched Mandy felt good. My fingers were actually tingling as I slipped my hand under her shirt and felt her skin for the first time. And everywhere she touched me felt even better.

The kiss deepened as I felt my body burning as it never had before. My hands moved on their own accord and soon I felt her moan into the warmth of my mouth as I filled my hands with her breasts. I could feel my shorts rubbing against my clit as I strained to be even closer to her.

I felt a surge of desire as I felt my shorts being lowered and the cool night air caressing my stomach. My hips jerked forward eager to finally feel Mandy’s touch. I could barely open my eyes as I pulled slightly away from her. My lips still trembled from her kiss. I whimpered as I felt her nipples pressing against the palms of my hands.

Her body arched against my touch as she released a deep moan. As much as I wanted to fulfill my fantasy there was something tugging at my heart that wouldn’t allow me to just have sex with Mandy in my car. Not that I was ruling out the possibility for a later date, but we had waited over a decade to be with one another.

"Not here," She panted echoing my unspoken thoughts. "I’ve waited, I want."

"So do I," I promised as my hands slipped away from her body. "We could wait even longer until the time is right?" I suggested as I silently pleaded for her to reject the idea.

"Oh?" She stammered slightly. "We could. Or we could?"

"Drive to my place which is just around the corner?" I quickly suggested thinking if she refused I was going to spontaneously combust.

"Good idea," She gasped before pinning me to my seat and kissing me deeply. I caressed her backside as her tongue explored every crevice of my mouth. I felt intoxicated by her kiss and the feel of her body rubbing against my own. If it hadn’t been for us actually bumping into the horn I might have abandoned my noble romantic notions and just given in to our carnal desires.

Each of us was gasping for air as we reluctantly slipped apart. "Wow," She panted heavily as she climbed back into her seat. "I thought you were a good kisser when we were fifteen, but I really had no idea just how good."

"You are incredible," I panted in response. "Over the years I thought about you and fantasized about you and nothing even came close to the way you just made me feel."

"I’ve fantasized about you too," She said softly as she caressed my hand. "Robbie just so you know I don’t normally do this."

"Do what?" I sputtered in a sudden panic.

"Be rude to a woman over dinner and then try to jump her bones," She laughed as her thumb brushed the back of my hand.

"Good to know," I laughed. "I don’t normally fall into bed with a woman either. I just can’t resist you."

"I can’t resist you either," She said as her eyes filled with warmth before turning dark with desire. "Now drive."

I broke a speed record getting to my home. There was something about living out a fantasy that can make you just a little nervous. My fears quickly faded as we entered my apartment and became wrapped up in one another’s arms. With each touch and passionate kiss I realized that the reality of being with Mandy was so much more intense than I could have ever imagined.

Mandy and I were about the same height which led to some very interesting fondling as we stumbled across my living room. I backed her into my bedroom never breaking the kiss we were sharing as our hands busied themselves with tearing off our clothing.

We left a trail of discarded clothing as we made our way into the bedroom. I ran my fingers through her long blonde hair as I took moment to drink in her body. She was so beautiful that I couldn’t breathe. "You’re so beautiful," I heard her whisper as she ran her fingers along my shoulders.

I kissed the curve of her neck as I lowered her down onto my bed. Things slowed as she pulled me down beside her. With our hands and our eyes we drank in the other’s splendor. I could see the goose bumps on her skin as I traced her freckles. We kissed softly and gently as our naked bodies touched for the first time.

I could feel her desire blending with my own as we caressed and teased one another’s breasts. Gently our hands drifted lower until each of us could feel the other’s wetness greeting her touch. Mandy’s eyes were filled with a soft warmth as we entered one another. I touched her and filled her as if it was our first time. I could feel her stroking me with the same gentleness as our bodies became one.

She mirrored my movements as I teased her clit while my fingers glided in and out of her wetness. I felt complete as we shuddered in unison each giving way to the needs of our bodies. My heart soared as we climaxed in unison.

Kissing again and again we gave one another what we had been dreaming about for years. Our bodies demanding more with each touch as the fire consumed us. The tenderness gave way to raw desire as I suckled her nipple into my mouth as she straddled my body.

She rode against my touch as I took her harder. I could hear her calling out my name as our movements turned wild. I teased her nipple with my teeth as her wetness spilled over me. Her head fell back as she cried out. I felt her body tightening against mine as she clung to me. I was blissfully trapped beneath her as she trembled against me.

"Tell me what you want?" She whispered against my skin as she kissed her way down my body.

"So many things," I promised in a husky tone as I guided her eager mouth to my wetness. "Yes," I hissed when I felt her tongue parting me. "Lick me," I urged her on as she nestled her body between my trembling thighs. I gripped the blankets as her tongue flickered across my swollen clit. I dug my heels into the mattress as she ran her tongue along my sex. She released tiny moans of pleasure as she feasted upon me. I begged her for more.

My world spun out of control when I felt her fingers inside of me. Her mouth and fingers filled me driving me to the brink of insanity as I looked down my naked body and watched her making love to me. My hips jerked up off of the bed as she begged me to come for her. I pressed myself deeper against her as she cupped my ass and drew me in deeper. I was in heaven when I climaxed against her. She lifted her head and watched me as her fingers continued to plunge in and out of my wetness.

Once again I reached the heavens as I screamed out her name. My body exploded as she held me tightly. I could barely breathe as I pulled her in for another kiss. The taste of my wetness on her lips made my body ache.

I was unable to move so I guided her up along my body. I caressed her ass as she lowered herself to me. The scent of her passion was intoxicating as I tasted her for the first time. I licked away every drop of her wetness as I fondled her backside. I felt her nearing the edge as her thighs tightened against my face.

I drank in more of her as I suckled her throbbing clit. Her body muffled her cries of ecstasy as she exploded against me. As she rocked against me I pressed my tongue against the opening of her center. I curled it before plunging it deep inside of her. I slipped in and out of her until she begged me to stop.

We shared a look of utter amazement as we curled up in the other’s embrace. Our bodies were spent, but still we couldn’t stop kissing. We agreed upon two things that night. The first was we were going to make Deb sweat it out before we let her know that her little scheme had worked. The second thing was that we really needed to spend as much time as possible kissing each other. There was something about the way we kissed that made each of us feel complete.
