The Other Breed by Carola "Ryûchan" Eriksson [original/alt/complete]
Humanity thought it was the pinnacle of creation. That mankind was the rulers of the Earth simply because they stood highest on the evolutionary ladder. They did not know that mankind was just... the second breed.

The Passing by Carola "Ryûchan" Eriksson [classic/alt/complete]
It was the end of everything. Or maybe, with the aid of the unlikeliest of sacrifices, it was a new beginning.

I've given the Academy Munchkins and the Great and Wondrous Oz™ the day off. While I know it's a holiday the United States celebrates today and not the rest of the world (on this day anyway), I just wanted to take a moment today to thank everyone who contributes to the Academy of Bards.

To the munchkins - I couldn't ask for a better bunch of ...well let's just leave it at a bunch <g>. Even you Phil, especially you :)

To the writers - thank you for spending countless hours doing work for free for us to enjoy (feedthebards, feedthebards, feedthebards!)

To the other websites - thanks for keeping us on our toes :)

And most importantly, to you - the readers. Without you we wouldn't be needed. Thanks for those who take the time to send us a note saying that our contribution isn't forgotten, it's very appreciated. Thanks for sticking with us. I hope everyone has a good day, and for the US readers, wear extra big pants!

The Key by Emyster [complete/alt/über PWP]
Waking up can be a pleasure.

November 23rd, 2004

In response to our Public Service Announcement yesterday, we've had a request to put this as a rebuttal. We don't usually do this but we're going to make an exception this time :) <please don't send a bunch to us to put up, this is a one-time deal!>

Greetings to all Bards,
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your stories, your time and hard work, your imaginations and dreams with us, the readers. It takes courage and nerves to post a story you've poured your heart into. I do appreciate these wonderful stories out here. But there are so many, many stories and only so much time to read them. If you don't get an email about your story, please don't get discouraged. It may be that it's the next on the list to read. Hang in there, we'll get to it!

I have so many (too many to count) stories on my "bookshelves" (CDs), that it will take me years to read them all. Which is fine with me, I can always add another shelf (CD) to my library of fan fiction. I'm sure I'm not the only reader who has a library of fan fiction. A reader's delightful dream-come-true, believe me.

But in the meantime, I just wanted to make this public announcement, thanking all you wonderful Bards for all these wonderful, fantastic stories out here for us to read. And while I'm at it, a great, big, huge, thank you to all the ff sites that post all these stories for the bards and us, the readers. I appreciate all your hard work and time you spend posting these stores for us too. You've created special stores for the bards and readers. It's like going to the Mall, except this Mall has nothing but "bookstores" in it. What a wonderful place to shop. And we don't have to get out in bad weather or crowds to go to this Mall either! Can't ask for better than that, now can we?

Thanks again, to the Bards and the ff sites, for all the stories that have been posted over the past years, and years to come. You are very much appreciated and you bring happiness and anticipation every day to those of us who check out the sites for new stories every time we get online, looking to see what has been posted since we were last online. It's fantastic what you bring to us, the readers. And we do appreciate it.

Thank you all,
Sherry

Public Service Announcement from the Academy

<.Steph steps up to the microphone.>

Excuse me...hello...excuse me...can you please...

<.OZ steps up to the microphone.>

QUI--ET!!!!!!

<.OZ steps back.>

<.Steph stares at Oz and gets a grin and a shrug in return.>

Well, yes.

This is Thanksgiving week and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to ask you to please, please take just a minute out of your busy week to thank a bard.

I know, I know...you have family/friends coming over, you are up to your armpits in...giblets. You are making your lists, checking them twice and contemplating which creditcards are gonna play nice.

You are busy.

But, surely you can spare just a minute to thank the bards who give so freely of their talent to everyone. The Academy is only one site...there are hundreds of fanfic sites with thousands of stories...thousands of stories available to you for FREE.

If you have read anything recently that has caught your fancy or would just like to remind a favorite bard that you still enjoy their stories...take just a minute to write them an email. Let them know you are thinking of them.

If you read'm, please feed'm.

Welcome to the Academy, Dana L'Wood.

Leave it to Chance by Dana L'Wood [über/alt/complete]
Chance is a leader of a motorcycle gang in San Diego known as the Road Wolves. They are a vigilante group that intervenes in much of the crime that is overlooked when it concerns women and children. This is actually the third story of a series I started about Chance and her lover, Tracy. The first two are pwp. This involves Chance in pursuit of a group of white slavers picking women off from bus routes in Southern CA. It is unusual for her to stray from the city limits but this time, Tracy's cousin is missing. Chance and her gang go through some rough spots but they prevail in the end.

Caitlin's Rescue by Dana L'Wood [über/alt/complete]
Characters in this story are of the X&G genre` and are friends of the famous pair though they are not mentioned. Killian has found a home in a mountain village of women after waking one morning three years previous to an empty bedroll beside her. Caitlin, her lover was gone. She searched but never found the beautiful warrior/fur trader. During the three years among the mountain women, Killian began to develop psychic abilities she didn't know she had until Nessa, a Celtic warrior and Druid saw, accepted and helped her develop her gift.

Killian wakes one morning having had a vision of Caitlin through a psychic passage. She runs to Nessa for help. Together they embark on a journey (with a few other friends) across the sea to a land they are unfamiliar with. There is plenty of drama and feeling with a love triangle and adventure.

Lost by Erin O'Rielly [über/alt/complete]
We put up the sequel without making sure the prequel was on our site! We have corrected the error.
Life can throw us curves when we least expect them. Just when we think everything is as it should be, an event occurs that rocks our world changing our lives forever. It is then that life altering decisions must be made. We find ourselves drowning in an undertow that has sucked us below threatening to pull us down into its deepest recesses. Surfacing, will we cry out take me or will we struggle to stay afloat desperately trying to find safety? And, if we do find safety, will anything ever be the same again?

Carol Barngate was in her fifties wanting nothing more than to live out her life basking in the glow of family and friends. For her, life had been good both personally and professionally. She considered herself happy until an innocuous meeting started her on a journey to self discovery that she never thought possible.

The Music by Emyster [über/alt/complete]
Life is to be listened to and lived thoroughly.

Hell for Pastime II: Dead in the Water by Nene Adams [original/alt/complete]
Capt. Anne Bonney and CIA Agent Amelia Emerson team up again on a classified mission in a race against time and neo- nazis to find a lost U-boat with such deep, dark secrets that may change the course of history as well as be the death of Rohan Tarnach.

Jack, the Seduction of Carol by Erin O'Rielly [über/alt/complete]
Standing here in the back of the very auditorium where I first saw her I can still hear her voice. Every fiber of my being screamed out as I listened to her speech and when I saw her I knew I had come home. I understand that you are wondering why I didn't make Carol my own and bed her. Hmm...I think you need to know more about me before I answer that question. Yes...you need to understand everything...

AHEM...a message from OZ...bad and verse <.bg.>:

ON the first day of list making, the folks of the A-cad-em-y
started off with a bell named Lib-er-ty.

ON the second day of list making the Academy added two...
Sexes, Male and Female...whoo hoo!

ON the third day of list making or maybe it was the night...
They added three primary colors, how bright.

ON the fourth day of list making, the list was getting mad...
The compass points is what they did add.

ON the fifth day of Solstice, things just got plain weird...
The 5 Beach Boys? It's now all downhill, I feared.

On the sixth day of list making, Steph's roots did appear...
Flags of Texas were added, and one exception quite clear.

ON the seventh day of list making, the items were so right...
The seven dwarfs were added, but no Snow White in sight.

On the eighth day of list making the folks finally remembered...
To add Santa's Reindeers, things always found in December.

ON the ninth day of list making, we all got in the game...
Nine baseball positions were added by their name.

ON the tenth day of list making, a little voice did say...
Give them commandments, but make it simple, okay?

ON the eleventh day of list making, the IDC exclaimed...
Give them dances, lots of dances to use in this game.

(and then she laughed, maniacally)

ON the last day, the twelfth, needing one last little bit...
They added a ton of noisy things just to give everybody a fit.

Yes, Folks...just when you thought it was safe...The Annual Academy Solstice Bard Challenge is here.

If you will go here:

http://www.academyofbards.org/contest/2004/solstice

You will find all the information you need. The premise is our standard Solstice one...write a story using as many of the listed words (78 total) as possible. The story can be X&G, Uber or original and doesn't necessarily even need to be a Solstice story.

Please read the roools carefully. Why? Cause I said so. Geez. Plus you may just find a few helpful hints and bonuses embedded in them.

Deadline is the 12th of December. Of this year, please.

Have fun.
