Announcement From Blue Feather Books
The wait is over. Lingering Shadows , the final book in the Shadows series featuring archaeologists Kim Blair and PJ Curtis, is now available. Readers have come to expect action, adventure, fantasy, friendship, and love in the diverse tales crafted by expert storytellers K.C. West and Victoria Welsh. Lingering Shadows delivers all that and more.

In Canyon Shadows, book four of the Shadows series, our heroines endured an arduous test of their commitment to one another. Confronted with a situation of kill or be killed, Kim made a choice that left her physically battered and emotionally drained. Try as they might, Kim and PJ couldn't find their way back to the harmony they'd come to rely on. Canyon Shadows ended with the two women, who'd promised to love each other forever, living apart and searching for ways to go on without one another.

Lingering Shadows picks up where Canyon Shadows left off. Kim feels unworthy of PJ's love and is determined to set PJ free, whatever the cost. But Mother Nature herself intervenes and throws PJ and Kim back together in a dangerous struggle for survival. Their love and devotion are literally and figuratively purified by fire, and they emerge on the far side with greater insights into each other, themselves, and the strength of their union.

Join Kim and PJ in this, their last triumphant foray, and experience a love that sprang into being in past lives and endures beyond time, safe and strong in the Lingering Shadows.

Order your copy now at www.bluefeatherbooks.com. Lingering Shadows will also be available in print and as an e-book in a few days from Bella Books.

Announcement From Ann McMan
It must be some other Ann McMan.
It has to be. Right?
It's somebody else.
Some OTHER upstart just got catapulted into the Academy Hall of Fame. It wasn't ME.
I mean, that HAD to be somebody else.
Maybe it was Ann McMan 2.0 . I heard there was an upgrade in the works.... And I think she's supposed to be taller, better looking, and use fewer adverbs.
Wherever that version of Ann is, I know one thing: she's dying of embarrassment (she knows she's unworthy); she's humbled by the company she's in (how do they walk in those shoes?); and she's eternally grateful to all of those wonderful people who took a chance on her -- and on a debut novel called "Jericho."
Thank you all so very much. This is a singular honor.
And since you're all my new best friends, I want you to know that I heard through a reliable source that Ann is hard at work (between film offers) on the full-blown sequel to "Jericho." I can tell you this much: it involves a big wind, a red Camaro with a mind of its own, and a little dog named Astrid.
[There also were rumors that Maddie might start dating guys.... but I think that is a scurrilous falsehood, engineered to coerce Claudia into upping Ann's royalties. I'll let you all know how that one comes out....]

New from Bedazzled Ink . . .

We're proud to present Clara's Story by Doreen Perrine

The ebook edition is available now. The print edition will be available in a few weeks.

Claire's passion for the New York art scene is overshadowed by her fascination with a quirky—and stunning—Italian artist, Isabelle. The only thing bolder than Isabelle's paintings is her flirting and, try as she might, Claire can't shake the charming girl from her mind—and heart. Like a new world explorer, Claire breaks away from a nagging, uptown mother and her nearly-estranged downtown father and journeys across an ocean and cultures in search of life and love.

A new bard has joined us. :) Hello and welcome Wendy Arthur!

Announcement From Mickey Minner
A great big thank you for including me in this year's inductees, what a tremendous honor. And thank you for all the work you do at the Academy. I am truly honored.

Announcement From Silverwriter01
I got on the internet Thursday to find a lot of e-friends telling me, "Congrads!" I said, "Thanks! For what?" They replied, "You've been inducted into the Academy of Bards' Hall of Fame! Go look!" So I went and looked. I think I stared at the page for ten minutes. I was so shocked and then I was flying high on a kite for the rest of the day. The Royal Academy has been bookmarked on my browser and heart since I first stumbled across it as a curious teenager. Years later and here I am, joining the company of such great writers. This is real right?

Now I want to say thank you. Thank you to the people who keep RAOB up and going. Thanks to all my readers. Thank you to those who send me messages, post reviews at the Athenaeum, or just say to themselves, "No! Not another cliffhanger. I hate you, Silverwriter! I need the next adventure of Brice now!" Thank you and I hope to keep providing you with lots of entertaining stories for years to come.

Announcement From Cheyne
I am also one who never thought I would get to say, "I'd like to thank the Academy..."
Thank you to the Royal Academy of Bards for inducting me into their Hall of Fame and to the readers who voted me in. It is a high honor and, in the words of VP Joe Biden, "a big effin' deal." My dear friend, The Raven, introduced me to the Academy, so it's all her fault. I mean, credit. And the loyalty of the readers who like my work kept me afloat.
Again, I am honored to be in such talented company.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Cheyne

Announcement From Medora MacD
How great is THIS? Having my favorite story inducted into the Academy's Hall of Fame? And in such marvelous company? I am so excited that I could – yes! – just SCREAM!! And go hog wild in the intemperate use of exclamation points!!! LOL. Seriously, folks, this is an absolutely amazing honor and one that I will long cherish. The Academy has not only provided me with a wealth of great reading material over the years, beginning with the inspiring works of Missy Good, but also with friends that have enriched my life beyond measure. I am so pleased to have been able to repay that in some small way by writing a story that others have deemed worthy of this kind of recognition. Thank you!!!!

Announcement From KG McGregor
Gobsmacked! It's a term I'd never even heard until I ventured into the Xenaverse and began chattering with new friends from across the pond. Now I can't imagine how else I'd describe the sense of surprise and joy I felt at receiving this honor. All of you readers who have visited here and taken the time to drop me a note about a story or a character have done more to make me a writer than all the writing classes, workshops & how-to books combined. The Royal Academy of Bards is such a special place, a true cornerstone of our fandom. In addition to keeping the essence of Xena & Gabrielle alive in our hearts, the Academy has given thousands of storytellers like me a creative outlet to nurture and grow their skills as writers, a sense of community, and arguably millions of hours of utter delight for readers worldwide. What touches me most is that it also gives a remote audience in rural settings and oppressive societies the opportunity to read stories they might not otherwise ever see. I'm so very proud to be recognized by the wonderful (& satanic) people behind the curtain of the magnificent RAOB, and truly grateful to join the company of the others who have won this award. Like I said, gobsmacked!

Announcement From Geonn Cannon
First of all, I'd like to thank the Academy. (I've ALWAYS wanted to say that!)

When I saw the list of winners, I freaked out (just a little). Then I had to go back a few times. "Well, you're tired. Just make sure... you may have misread what they were saying, just go and check one more... well, just in case..." But apparently it's true! When I first started posting here, I had to be nudged to actually send the story. I didn't feel like my work belonged among the stories I'd seen here. But I was welcomed into the fold with open arms. I was (and still am) honored to be asked to participate in the various Invitationals. It's because of this website that my first novel got published (I now have six books out, with at least that many in the pipeline), and I've gotten so many readers I don't think I would ever have reached otherwise.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the readers who voted for me!

Announcement From D
I wanted to take the time to thank the Academy readers for voting another of my stories into the Hall of Fame. What an honor - and completely unexpected at that! I can honestly say I never thought to see it happen, so thank all of you for taking the time to add Devil to my 'streak' and to the Hall of Fame. It was a fabulous surprise!

Thanks especially to the Munchkins who continue to remain at their posts and the Boss and Phil for keeping things on track. You are all greatly appreciated.

Announcement From the Royal Academy of Bards Hello Bards and Readers...
It's time to announce all the WINNERS from all the different events the Academy of Bards had going on in July but first...

  • Thank you to all the Bards who wrote entries and competed in the BC#25: The Powers That Be. I hope you enjoyed the experience enough to join us for the Winter Solstice Challenge later this year.
  • Thank you to everyone who took on the challenge of the PunZle. Anyone still need some Advil? Hold that thought. <.g.>
  • Thank you to all the rabid reader voters. Your efforts have given us a WINNER in the Challenge and several new inductees to the Academy Hall of Fame.
  • Thank you to all those who participated in the Feed The Bards Campaign. I sincerely hope that you keep it up throughout the entire year. The writers are willing to share their talent with everyone for free...please take a moment and acknowledge their efforts.
Okay...onto the announcements.

Let's talk Bard Challenge. The premise was to write a story involving super powers of some kind. We got 12 awesome story entries. How awesome? Every story received a multitude of votes. You want more awesome?
The number of votes separating first place from second place (the honorable mention) was ONE vote. If we ranked the stories one to twelve...the difference in votes from first to last was fourteen votes.
Yeah, it was that close.

We had a great mix of new competitors and returning favorites.
LOVE IT.
Check out the page to see author information...and FEED THE BARDS.

Our WINNER of BC#25 is Entry 9:
Speed of the Beat of My Heart by Catrina Wolfe
Our Honorable Mention is Entry 7:
Honor Among Thieves by Del Robertson

<.APPLAUSE.>

We have some special prizes for both of these Bards.

Now about the PunZle. Y'all might want to take me up on my offer of Advil.
We aren't going to crown a winner. No one got the original 20 pictures correct. I'm thinking y'all made this way harder on yourselves than it needed to be. I told you what the theme was way back when I announced the PunZle.

I quote:
"It's a coincidence that we are going right before we drop the most Beastly, Atrocious, Diabolical, Devilish, Iniquitous, Evil, Sinister PunZle challenge on you."

B-A-D-D-I-E-S PunZle.

It was all about villains. Uh huh.

We are not going to put the answers up online just yet. If you HAVE TO know the answers, drop me an email. But give it another try. I had a killer bonus prize for the first one to get the correct answer to the question.

Now let's talk about the Hall of Fame. We have six new Bards and nine stories going in. I am soooooooooooooooo glad to finally see some 'other' fandom stories getting recognition. We have a SVU story, a B5 story and a DWP series being inducted. Plus some great recent stories and an incredible classic. Onto the list...

The Academy Hall of Fame is proud to present the 2011 inductees:

Hall of Fame (BARDS):
Hall of Fame (STORIES):

The streaks continue for Del and D. Way to go y'all.

Ann McMan gets a hattrick for 3 stories, including the top vote-getter.

AWESOME!

Our Fan of the Year is once again Carpe Chakram (march231994802@aol.com )
But Kudos to cpo4224950@aol.com as well. It was a good close race.

We have one more announcement to make...
The Academy of Bards Lifetime Achievement Award. For that we go to the BIG BOSS herself...take it away Steph.

As the big kahuna of the Academy of Bards, it's my privilege and honor to consider the wealth of talent we have driving us to keep doing what we have been doing going on eleven years now. There are so many contributors to our site and to the Xenaverse in general, it's always so hard to choose our annual recipient for the Lifetime Achivement award. This year, however, I was able to come up with a name quickly - someone who has been around for a while now enriching my life and hopefully yours as well. The only hard part for me was coming up with words good enough to describe why I think she was deserving so I asked some friends to help me this year.

I've learned a lot from K.G. MacGregor since our first meeting - she has a quick wit and a sharp tongue, but rarely cuts anyone with it. She's a consummate professional in her chosen field, and woe be to anyone who gets between her and a deadline. Despite life altering changes over the last few years, she continues to plug away at the keyboard, attend conventions, and generally make every one she speaks to feel that they are the most important person in her world. Her dedication to the craft of writing amazes me no end.
~~D. Jordan Redhawk

K.G. MacGregor conjures up characters who are complex, challenging, and therefore completely captivating and puts them in stories that you want to read again and again. And AGAIN.
On this basis alone, she merits an award from the Academy for lifetime achievement.
K.G. is so much more, however, than a best-selling, award-winning author. She has not only held herself to the highest standards of creative writing, she also has encouraged others – commanded them even – to do the same. And she has shared generously of her time and talent to help them accomplish that. As someone who wrestles all day with words, I have appreciated her contributions to raising the quality of lesbian literature and publishing every bit as much as the entertainment her stories has given me.
Thanks, friend, for showing us how it is supposed to be done. I "shutter" to think of where we'd be without your sterling example.
~~Medora MacDougall

While KG continues to grow as a writer, creating engaging characters & their memorable “worlds”, she has never lost touch w/her roots, the Xenaverse. There's no doubting she sincerely enjoys interacting w/fans and friends while continuing to give back to the community.
… even if she is a TarHeel.
~~tlc

What can I say about KG?

Well, I could say lots of stuff.

<.BEG.>

But...she'd hurt me. So I'll be nice. LOL

I can tell you that she is an award winning (and deservedly so) published author and still she graciously took the time to play in some of our Academy Bard Challenges.

I can tell you she is an incredible human being who apparently has a thing about gold mouse ears.

Thankfully, she did not kill the delivery person. <.whistling innocently.>

And I can tell you that she is one of my favorite people in the whole world.

Eventhoughshecallsmesatan.

Which I may or may not deserve.

However, she DOES deserve the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Congrats KG.

BC#25 is now over. I want to thank everyone who read the stories and voted. Based on the voting, I'm guessing a lot of readers had a hard time deciding on just one story. All twelve incredible stories received votes and it was a very, very tight race from start to finish.

I also would like to thank everyone for sending in their nominations for the Hall of Fame. I am now going to go through all the emails and tally them up to see who gets inducted. I will also go through the FTB emails to see who will be named Fan of the Year.
